Sloan: Pretty Together (murderecords, 2001)

Favourite Songs:

The Other Man, Dreaming Of You, Who You Talkin' To?, Life Of A Working Girl, Are You Giving Me Back My Love?….and eight other ones.

What would be a better band to start this review section than Sloan. I'm a huge fan and I even stole the name of this site from their classic album One Chord To Another. The latest album from this canadian group is titled Pretty Together and it came out already a year ago. I finally got it a few weeks ago. So then off to the album.

Oh my, Sloan have made arquably their best record so far as a whole. I thought even Sloan couldn't ever write a better album than One Chord To Another, but fortunately I was totally wrong. The opener, rockin' If It Feel Goods Do It starts the album very similar way like The Good In Everyone did on One Chord To Another. The third song of the album, a mighty perfect pop tune called The Other Man will make popsters drop their jaws and that's where the heaven starts. The rest of the album is a pure delight. Pretty pop songs like Dreaming Of You, Life Of A Working Girl and achingly beautiful Are You Giving Me Back My Love? balancing with some great rockier tunes like Never Seeing The Ground For The Sky. The songwriting is on the highest possible level and when you add to this the fact that Chris Murphy, Jay Ferguson and Patrick Pentland are singing their hearts out and their vocals are now sounding even better than ever before, it's easy to say that Pretty Together is clearly one of the very best albums within the last few years. I'm stunned…
