Favourite Songs:
We'll Be The Flowers On Our Grave, Is It You?, Can't Fall In Love Ah. Finally a new lemo album. This new beautiful piece is a nice add-on to their catalog which is already full of fabulous releases. It's hard to say is this the best one yet, because the earlier ones have set the standars so high and on a personal level the first two had such a major impact on me and to the way my music taste progressed. So I'm suffering from the silly indie snobbiness and always seem to praise the very first Lemonator releases (kind of a same situation with Office Building and The Sugarrush whose debut albums will always be the dearest ones for me, no matter how better in all levels their follow-ups have been and will be). It's rather idiotic pattern, but I suppose I can't get over it. Oh well. Why to worry, because I can still fully enjoy listening to 'Grandpop'. The single 'Broken Record' was a good song, but there are far better songs on the album. 'We'll Be The Flowers On Our Grave' is the most complete moment and that chorus is stunning. Knowing that Ken Stringfellow (The Posies) was singing backing vocals on 'The Killer I', It was the song I waited the most. A bit disappointing was that you can hardly tell it's Ken, but it's a great power pop tune nevertheless. Beautiful 'Yearbook 2001' would sound even better if I hadn't heard Red Carpet's 'Model' before. Veli did that "year thing" so perfectly on that not yet released song that I can't get it out of my mind. 'Can't Fall In Love' is another favourite of mine. I'm a sentimental popster and usually these hearbreakin ballads appeal to me even more than the simple pop songs. And I admit that I've felt exactly the same feelings than what the song is about. 'Can't Fall In Love' should also be on the soundtrack of the next Bond movie. Pop genius Lasse Kurki has written all the songs by himself except 'Is It You' which he co-wrote with Antti Karisalmi. This 'Is It You' is also one of the best and most memorable compositions on the album. Yeah. Lemonator was again able to make a wonderful album. Grandpop is a fabulous piece of music. Whether you call it their best or not is just a matter of opinion. I would still rate 'Maison Rilax' as my favourite album by them, but you can't go wrong with any of the albums. Grandpop is a fourth great album in a row. Hopefully we won't have to wait that fifth one very long. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lemonator Website Written 21.04.2003 |
