OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #339

Another late Sunday edition of the new music weekly. My vacation is now over, so maybe this gets back to normal schedule. There’s still a lot of live shows coming up though, so some delays may occur.

New Anna Tivel is the album of the week. She has been one of my songwriter favorites for a decade and this is again a remarkable album. Absolutely love it. There’s also great new albums from Caroline Spence, Ron Sexsmith, Cooper Kenward, Margo Price, The Fishermen Three, Rodney Crowell, Jens Kuross, Floating Action, Shabason, Krgovich and Tenniscoats, Charlie Collins, The Beths, John Moran (EP), Sekunderna, herbal tea, Lakun, Foot Ox, Katy Pinke & Will Graefe (covers album), Stephen Wilson Jr (covers ep), Buck Curran and Modern Nature.

A giant release week in Finland too, because we have a new Sur-rur album. Extremely highly recommended and definitely one of my favorite Finnish albums of the year so far. A lot of other great things too. We have albums from Lovers Left Alive and Kauko Röyhkä & Riku Mattila plus singles from A.Reikko & Kaupungin ääni, 1961, Puhelinseksi, Mutka, Janne Laurila Double Denim, Nina Kaitaranta, Lettoman, Lone Deer Laredo and Kärmes.

International single of the week honors can go to both Sabine McCalla and Thomas Dollbaum. There’s beautiful music videos to both of those songs as well. Other early faves came from Tristen, Joan Shelley, Julianna Riolino, Lefty Parker, Sharp Pins.. again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Back next week with another of these. Love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #338

This is a surprise new music weekly. Even for myself. The plan was to cover two weeks with the next one instead of making this on Tuesday. But I got back home from the Stockholm Roots Festival early in the morning, started listening to new music and there was so much good stuff that it inspired me to do this now. I also know that I will be quite busy during next weekend and grinding out a two week playlist late on a Sunday night felt a bit too much. By doing this now, it also gives me the option to make the next on Monday. Anyway, here it goes. Might be some stuff missing, because this was quickly done. I fill the possible holes on the next one.

New Dean Johnson is the album of the week (and one of my favorites of the whole year too). Other great album releases came from Greg Freeman, Kathleen Edwards, Dillon Warnek, Leslie Graves & Toby Goodshank, Sam and Louise Sullivan, SunYears, Way Dynamic, Tullycraft, Scree, Darren Hayman, Case Oats, Superchunk, Hand Habits, Jake Chisenhall (EP), Hello Emerson (EP), Misty Harlowe (EP), Tommy Prine (EP), Will Hoge, The Numbers (this is from July) and Judy Blank.

Finnish part has the awesome new Eero Savela album along with singles from Longing Louisa, Metsäheikki, Arppa, Pekko Käppi & K:H:H:L, Morimus and Matti Sakari.

International single of the week is the new single from Mia Wilson. Loving it so much and I’m eager to hear her debut album that is coming out on Royal Oakie in November. Other early faves came from John Calvin Abney, Westmoreland, Ken Pomeroy, Cut Worms, Fittonia, Jerry Leger, Joshua Ray Walker, Fittonia… again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Next one is most likely very late on Sunday or even very late on Monday. Oh and I didn’t include the new singles of this week on this one. I did this on Tuesday, so there’s plenty already out like Sabine McCalla and Thomas Dollbaum.. But those gems will go to the next one. Love.
