OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #317

What a giant release week. I think there’s 29 international albums/EPs on this one. Way too much to fully listen in one weekend, but here’s what I managed to put together.

Will Stratton made the album of the week. I’ve loved that album since I first heard it a month or two ago. A work of art. AOTY quality. There’s other special gems too. I mean Fust. Hell yeah. What a record. And The Burning Hell, Clara Mann, Reb Fountain, Jason Isbell. Oh dear what a week. Then there’s also Carter Felker, Darci Phenix, Ryan Necci and The Buffalo Gospel (EP), Tobacco City, Kris Delmhorst, Benmont Tench, Arny Margret, Chris Brain, Fine China, Silver Synthetic, Star 99, Consumables, Charles Moothart (EP), Donna Allen, The Tubs, The Medium (EP), LAKE, Sylvie Lewis, Justin Jeansonne, Bob Mould, Dylan Golden Aycock, Nick Garza’s Get Along (EP) and Haroula Rose & Oliver Hill.

A bit more quiet on the Finnish side of things, but we do have EPs from Kissa and Hanhani and an album from Hanna-Maria Lifländer. Plus singles gold from Tender Lakes, Kaikki turhat haaveet, 1980 AD and JUNTTU.

New Kassi Valazza is the international single of the week. Can’t wait to hear the new album. Other early faves came from Dean Johnson, Steady Holiday, Patton Magee, Hectorine, Chad Price Peace Coalition, Jay Gonzalez, Jerry David DeCicca, Coltt Winter Lepley.. again just to name a few.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #316

A slightly flu-ish edition of the new music weekly. I have even less brain capacity than normally, so I’m sure there’s stuff missing.

New Lou Hazel is the album of the week. I’ve loved everything he has released so far and I’m thrilled that there’s now a full album of his songs. Other big album releases came from Kristin Daelyn, Will Stewart, Echolalia, Domestic Drafts, Jacob Miller (EP), Yves Jarvis, Paradise Motel Lounge, Charles Wesley Godwin (EP), JD Clayton, Ponyhustle (this one is a few weeks old, but I had missed the email until now), Buffalo Kin, The While (EP) and Midwestern Medicine (EP).

The big one from Finland is the long-waited Sonja Selene album. Another cool new album is from New Silver Girl. A lot of great singles too from Slack Bird, Poni, Ghost World, The Moontwins, Moonwards, Hattara, Tinyhawk & Bizzarro, Cats of Transnistria, Wilma, Eidetic Dreams, Thelma’s Dream and Janeveera. A lot of stuff in the dream pop / shoegaze spectrum, if you are into such things. Kind of a reason I included Ahti Kulo’s Hattara remix too, because it fit so well in there. Well of course I love the band too, but usually I leave out remixes and live stuff because these playlists are already longer than anyone will listen.

Some early faves in the international single category came from Colin Miller, Craig Finn, Sharp Pins, 54 Ultra, Michael Cloud Duguay, Blue Cactus and Judy Blank. Again just to name a few.

Another week, another new music weekly.

A lot of great albums this week. So far I’ve spent most time with Cici Arthur and I love the album. So let’s call that the album of the week. We also have great new albums from Sunny War, Justin Wells, Juliet McConkey, Patterson Hood, Cristina Vane, The Rishis, Kendall Lujan, Jesse Welles, Human Culture, Timothy Nelson, Katy Pinke, Mirrored Daughters, Basia Bulat, Laurie Torres, The Look Aways, Bella Cloud (EP), David Ivan Neil and Rapt.

A bit more quiet on the Finnish side of things, but there’s some wonderful ones for sure. New Figaro is the lone album here, but there’s a run of awesome singles from myrtsi, Rosettes, Emmy June, Itcevät, Helmi Antila, Siina Suutarinen and Juha Mäki-Patola.

The international singles part of this full of gold. New Fust is the song of the week. It’s overwhelming, because this is just a spare time hobby and there’s hundreds of emails each week. Nevertheless, I’m still horrible at it and I have cloud of guilt hanging over me all the time because of it. But I do try to listen quite a bit, so feel free to send submissions. If you want to be on the playlist, send the submission (or a reminder) on the release week though. I have close to zero chance to remember something sent me weeks before release, because it’s like on page seven on my inbox before the song is out and available. Sure if it’s something I really loved, I will probably click the follow button on the streamers and might get a notification that way. But if it’s a new artist / project, that might not even be possible if there’s no artist profiles on the evil platforms yet. Anyway, just a helpful tip, if you want to be on this little playlist.
