OCTA 18th Anniversary – Natural Bridges

Birthday party continues in Oakland, CA with Natural Bridges and its frontman Matthew Johnson. They’ve been one of the new finds of 2019 for me and lately I’ve been listening and loving both their new 2019 album Residual Daydreams and their 2013 album Good Medicine. I suppose it’s no wonder, because while looking at their press release for the new album it closely resembles the foundation of my music taste. Brian Wilson, Big Star, 70s folk rock, soul and so forth. It’s a really sweet album and I love it to bits. The songwriter Matthew Johnson appears on our festival with an acoustic version of a song called Ronnie’s in Bed. Listen to the studio version too at Bandcamp, because if I had a saying this would be a radio hit on every station.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – LUKA

Our anniversary week continues in Toronto, Canada with singer-songwriter Luke Kuplowsky aka LUKA and his most beautiful cat Rohmer. We’ve been big fans of both for a few years and are very honored that they wanted to grace our festival stage with their sweet presence. LUKA writes these charming gentle rock’n’roll crooners in the vein of Jonathan Richman for example and sings them ever so beautifully. His contribution to our festival is called Quick Reflex and it can be found from his third full-length What Kind of Animal. Make sure you also check out the album Summon Up a Monkey King for two reasons a) it’s wonderful b) it has the sweetest cover art.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Volter

Our birthday party carries on in Tampere, Finland with a colourful high quality retro number from Volter. Their camp has been a bit quiet lately, but got back together to deliver this beautiful video for our enjoyment. And wrote some new songs too, so maybe we will hear new Volter originals in the near future. Ghost Town however, is an outtake from their debut album No Return that surfaced back in 2012. If you want to dive deeper into their 60s influenced mellow garage pop sounds, hit that bandcamp link at the bottom.
