OCTA 18th Anniversary – Matt Paxton

We’ll take our party gear across the border to Canada. Singer-songwriter Matt Paxton from Hamilton, Ontario is another long time favourite and his music has been featured here several times during these years. It all started when I found his 2011 album How The Land Lies and here’s Matt Paxton with a lovely version of Harbour Town from that particular album. Hit that bandcamp link below to find this song and the rest of that beautiful record. His most recent project The Rumblings of Spring just released their excellent self-titled debut EP this summer, so follow those links too if you want to hear the most recent sonic adventures of Matt Paxton.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Hezekiah Jones

I hope everyone had a good night’s sleep and have enough energy for another festival day. We will begin day two of the celebration in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Raph Cutrufello’s folk collective Hezekiah Jones gathered together at Stargazer Château to deliver a spectacular live version of a song called Yeshe & Horus. The original studio version can be found from their 2016 EP Har! Har! Har! that’s available on their bandcamp just like their whole wonderful back catalogue of beautifully arranged alternative folk songs.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – The Burning Hell

The day 1 of our birthday festival ends with a live performance from an awesome Canadian band called The Burning Hell and one of my all-time biggest song obsessions Fuck The Government, I Love You. I’ve watched the music video of this song hundreds of times, I love the song with all my heart and I can never get tired of it. The studio versions can be found both from the 2016 The Burning Hell album Public Library and the duo album Don’t Believe The Hyperreal from Mathias Kom and Ariel Sharratt that came out a year before. These albums and the whole catalogue is full of other fabulous songs too. So hit that bandcamp link below to investigate further. Here’s The Burning Hell with the sweetest song called Fuck The Government, I Love You. That’s it for tonight. Tomorrow the festival continues 7pm (noon EST) at your place. Bring snacks.
