OCTA 18th Anniversary – Iron Country Sisters

Moving back to Finland and more precisely Helsinki, but definitely continuing with the theme of roots music with classic harmonies. The singing is one of the biggest strengths of Iron Country Sisters. It’s a trio of three actual sisters who share the lead vocal duties and then back each other with those dazzlingly beautiful harmonies. They could sing the phone book (if those still exist) and it would still sound beautiful. Nevertheless, it’s still a good thing that the songs are wonderful too. They are getting ready to release their debut album The Blue Hidden In on the 27th of September, so this blog will definitely get back to their music quite soon after this anniversary week. Meanwhile we can enjoy this living room version of an album cut called Woodstock.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Clay Parker and Jodi James

Anniversary celebration continues in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with Clay Parker and Jodi James. They are a wonderful acoustic duo who write captivating and timeless folk songs and sing them ever so beautifully. Their 2018 album The Lonesomest Sound That Can Sound is one of my biggest of favorites of that year. If you are into classic folk songwriting and beautiful harmony singing, you should definitely listen to that album. A big congrats to them also for the release of their new single Shame on You, Shame on Me, which just came out and can be found on their website or all streaming platforms (here for example). A different more rockin’ sound than on the record, but equally wonderful. Here’s Clay Parker and Jodi James singing Arrows and Bows.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Steven Lambke

Our next artist is Canadian singer-songwriter Steven Lambke who recorded his contribution while staying in Dale i Sunnfjord, Norway. Steven has been a big part of this blog both as a songwriter and as the co-owner of one of my favorite record labels You’ve Changed Records. He has done a lot during the past couple of decades first as a guitarist / vocalist of the Canadian indie rock legends Constantines and then as a solo artist under the moniker Baby Eagle. The dearest ones to me are the last two solo records that he released under his own name. His song for our anniversary festival is called My Love Is Impure But Enduring and it’s outtake from his most recent and wonderful 2019 album Dark Blue.
