OCTA 18th Anniversary – Viljami Kukkonen

Our anniversary festival comes back to Helsinki, Finland to meet up with singer-songwriter Viljami Kukkonen. His festival song is called Minä valvon nimeäsi and it’s an outtake from his 2012 album Mörönsyötti. Regular readers are probably well aware that this particular album is one of my all-time favorite Finnish albums (and you can throw all the other countries in there too). It has its sadness, but it’s also kind, beautiful, warmhearted and it carries me through the longer nights. I’m very honored to share this beautiful song as part of the anniversary week. This is also a perfect closer to our festival day 5. Back tomorrow for day 6 starting 7pm Finland and noon EST. But now let’s sway into the night in the arms of this lovely performance.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – St. Lenox

Our anniversary celebration continues in Brookyn, NY with the amazing St. Lenox aka songwriter Andrew Choi. I’m very honored to have him joining this event, because he has a been such a big favorite for me during the past year. His art pop songs are a unique combination of poetry, free verse stream-of-consciousness and beautiful, catchy melodies. And the songs have heart in the right place. Especially his last two albums Ten Fables of Young Ambition and Passionate Love and Ten Hymns From My American Gothic should be modern folk classics. Please give them a spin on his Bandcamp for example. Here’s St. Lenox singing a song called The Public School System for our birthday party.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Kelly Hunt

We are moving on to Kansas City, Missouri to hear a special performance from Kelly Hunt and Staś Heaney. Kelly Hunt is a wonderful folk/americana songwriter and banjo player and I’m very fond of her 2019 album Even the Sparrow. I’m proud to welcome her to the stage with her colloborator violinist Staś Heaney and together they play us a song called Everybody Knows. If you want to hear more of her music, an excellent place to start is this fabulous opening track Across The Great Divide from that new album.
