Maya de Vitry, Erisy Watt, Ellen Froese and Renata Zeiguer

Another quick late night round up of releases that I love. We’ll start this one from Nashville, Tennessee with Maya de Vitry’s exceptional new album Violet Light. Reflective, deeply moving and perpetually beautiful folk album. If you want a recommendation for tomorrow’s Bandcamp Friday, I would like to shout this from the roooftops. Or well maybe instead climb on top of the mountain and gently whisper Violet Light into the air. Love this album.

Next we have a magical new single from Portland-based folk songwriter Erisy Watt. Her new album Eyes like the Ocean will be released by American Standard Time Records on the 1st of April. This beauty of a song lift the expectations sky high and I look forward to hearing the whole album when the spring arrives.

Then across the border to Canada. Saskatoon to be more precise. Songwriter Ellen Froese has recently released a couple of singles that you may have heard, if you follow the new music weekly. I’m not exactly sure are these advance singles of a forthcoming album or just separate singles, but what I do know is that both are gorgeous and I love them. That In the Sun music video is also pure gold.

We’ll wrap this little blog post in New York with songwriter Renata Zeiguer. More spring magic will hit our hearts on the 8th of April when her new album Picnic in the Dark will be released by Northern Spy Records. Here’s the tremendous lead single Sunset Boulevard along with the equally impressive music video.

MAITA, Jerry Leger, The Kernal and Jake Balzer

Should I get back to these short posts of songs and music videos that I love? I don’t really know, but here’s one anyway. Starting from Portland, Oregon with the latest MAITA song/video Loneliness. It’s a wonderful outtake from their forthcoming album I Just Want the Be Wild for You that will be released by Kill Rock Stars on the 18th of February.

Across the border and over to Toronto, Canada where long time favorite Jerry Leger is getting ready to release his next full-length. The album Nothing Pressing is due out March 16th on Latent Recordings. The announcement came with this magnificent lead single Have You Ever Been Happy?

I think it’s mandatory to visit Nashville in these round-up posts, so let’s take care of that with one of the first album highlights of the year. A new album Listen to the Blood from The Kernal came out 14th of January on Single Lock Records. Here’s the great single The Fight Song that also features the fabulous Caitlin Rose along with another album favorite Wrong Turn to Tupelo.

Jake Balzer did his best to not be included on my EPs of the year 2022 list by releasing his gorgeous Never Better EP on the 31st of December. I may have to disappoint him and bend the rules a little bit, because I probably won’t have the heart to leave this out if the blog/world still exists at the end of 2022. Let’s wrap with a Red Barn live take of EP track In Your Memories.

North Atlantic Explorers, Erin Rae and Lonny

A small round up of albums / songs that I’ve loved. The journey starts in Vancouver, British Columbia with Glenn D’Cruze’s North Atlantic Explorers. Their fourth album Night Owls is a sophisticated pop album full of beautifully arranged magical songs. Oh how I love the vocals and the harmonies on this one. This kind of takes me in the same place as The Heavy Blinkers and their masterwork Health. Here’s a couple of personal favorites from the album. The magnificent opener Beneath the Light of the Moon along with music video for my own favorite song Hurricane Hazel.

Nashville-based Erin Rae is a long time favorite and she is about to release a new album Lighten Up on the 4th of February. All the advance singles have been pure gold and I can’t wait to hear the whole album. The latest of the singles is this cinematic pop beauty called Cosmic Sigh.

French singer-songwriter Lonny won my heart over with some magically beautiful folk singles and now follows them up with a equally impressive debut full-length. Let’s wrap this little blog post with one of the highlights of the album. This is Comme la fin du monde from the new album Ex-Voto.
