Onechord.net turns 15: Freschard – Cheese and Crackers

freschard

This song was such a huge addiction couple of years ago and I still sometimes find myself singing the words Cheese and Crackers out loud in public places. Jesus Christ this song is one of the greatest and most pleasant earworms I can think of. It’s forever stuck in my head, heart and bellybutton and I don’t even want to get rid of it. I know that I’ve perhaps spent too much time praising this particular song, because there’s several similarly brilliant songs in the Clemence Freschard song vault, but how could I not go with this one in this anniversary thingy. However, the albums Shh.. and Boom Biddy Boom are filled with gorgeous songs and there’s a new and most likely great album coming out this fall. I can’t wait to hear it.

And here’s the classic Tweet Tweet video from Wowsers Trousers as a bonus.

Onechord.net reaches 15 years on September 17. Leading up to that, I will be sharing some songs that I hold dear. Songs that I’ve loved the most during the years I’ve been making this. So basicly just some nostalgic crap, but with a damn brilliant soundtrack.

Onechord.net turns 15: Barna Howard – Turns Around the Bottle

barna

Sticking in Portland for the time being and could stay there for several entries on this anniversary thingy. The whole Mama Bird family could and should be here and then there’s Huck and Richmond Fontaine and ton of other things. Portland rules my world. Actually Adam Selzer from the previous entry produced and recorded Barna Howard’s second album Quite A Feelin’. While that one is just as wonderful, I have to go with a song from the debut on this. After all, the self-titled Barna Howard album is one of the dearest and nearest to my heart. Besides being a magnificent album filled with the finest songwriting, it was my introduction to my current favourite record label, Mama Bird Recording Co. During the past five years they’ve released a lot of albums that I hold oh so dear. Myriam Gendron, Widower, Vikesh Kapoor etc. Just wonderful. And their 2016 releases from Courtney Marie Andrews and Birger Olsen are both among the year’s finest. I don’t really have an absolute favourite song on Barna’s classic debut, because I love all of them. Maybe I might be the most fond I’ll Let You Pick Window, but I’ll go with this live version of Turns Around the Bottle.

And here’s the first single Promise, I Won’t Laugh as a bonus.

Onechord.net turns 15: Norfolk & Western – At Dawn or After Dusk

norfolk

I have selected only fairly new crushes so far, so here’s one love affair from the early days of One Chord To Another. This affair turned into a lifelong commitment and this album is still very dear to me. Even though I know all songs by heart I still regularly listen to this 2004 album from Norfolk & Western. Adam Selzer has done a lot of great things both as a songwriter/musician and as a producer, but for me Dusk in Cold Parlours is his masterpiece. It’s been about 12 years since this came out on Hush Records, so I suppose it’s already safe to say that this is one of my all-time favorites. I’m fond of almost every song on the album, but if I have to pick just one, it has to be this album closer At Dawn or After Dusk that perfectly wraps the album together.
