OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #311

Here we are again with another episode of this crazy project. Spotify is trying to make me quit though, because it’s becoming more and more questionable to do this there with each passing year. I struggle with that continuously, but at least I do give that Tidal alternative. This has just never gathered much steam there, but maybe 2025 changes that.

New Rose City Band is the album of the week. There’s also new albums from Chris Eckman, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Julie Fowlis and Karine Polwart, Nicole Hale, From Nowhere Wil, Magana (EP), MEGGO (EP), Josh Gilligan, The Witches’ Hymnal, Brian John McBrearty, Wes Parker (EP) and The Sprouts (EP).

Just singles on the Finnish part, but they are all really good. There’s new ones from Kaikki turhat haaveet, Knife Girl, Salla Karonen, Janeveera, (proto)Torvinen, Punomo and Mumu the Free Driver.

Cici Arthur and Weaving can share the international single of the week honor. Somehow missed the Cici Arthur album announcement and first single in December, because AOTY stuff took my attention. So check that out too. This one here is the second single. Love them both. Other early faves came from Bland Halen, The Delines, Craig Finn, Jeffrey Lewis, Kyle Cox and many others.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters though. Love.

A few Bandcamp cuts for the lovely non-streamers:

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.
