OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #248

A busy weekend. Friday I drove to Pori to see Chad Price and Samae Koskinen. Tomorrow I plan to go to Helsinki to see David Ramirez and Iron Country Sisters. So it didn’t leave much time to listen new music, but I quickly put this thing together. There was again a lot of of releases and I didn’t have the time to listen full albums. I’ll do that during the coming week.

Tyler Childers is the big one of the week, but there’s plenty of great things on the rootsy side of the scale. Like new Nick Shoulders, Jobi Riccio, Allison Russell and Logan Ledger for example. Nico Hedley, Smug Brothers and Swansea Sound are highly recommended on the other end of the onechordnet spectrum. Then there’s also great new albums from Jonathan Wilson, Low Cut Connie, Lillie Mae, Drayton Farley (EP), Bill and the Belles (Willie Nelson covers), Idanha (EP), Sparklehorse (posthumous album from one of my all-time faves. I haven’t really listened to it yet. I think I need the perfect moment for that), Patrick Dethlefs and Pleasure Horse (covers).

From Finland my favorites are songs I’ve missed before. I found dream pop / shoegaze band Hattara this week (thanks to Joel) and love all the three singles they’ve released so far. This is why there’s a rare double feature, because I couldn’t decide which of them I will choose. So I picked up two. Even that was difficult. We also have a couple of gorgeous album releases from Rami Vierula and Markus Krunegård (still logging Markus among the Finnish ones, because he sings in Finnish on the new album. I hope he doesn’t mind). A couple of excellent new singles from Hulda Huima and Pambikallio too.

New Gladie song can take the imaginary international song of the week title. Love that band and this is again such great song. Other early song faves came from Kelly Hunt, Paige Plaisance, Thomas Walsh, Bry Webb, Jacksonport, Teenage Tom Petties, The Resonant Rogues, Gabriel Birnbaum and Van Plating. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Back next week with another one of these things. Love love love.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.
