OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #204

Another week, another new music weekly.

This week I made also some sort of genre-specific playlists based on these new music weekly posts. There’s one with power pop, soul and Finnish language songs and you’ll find them from my Spotify and Apple profiles. I can add to Tidal too, if there’s interest. I’m not really sure how I will operate those. This new music weekly remains the main thing, but maybe I’ll pick some songs from these to those bi-weekly or monthly or something. So everything will be here first. I thought about folk / country / americana thing too. Or women of folk or something like that. I do cover that pretty well here with this playlist so maybe somewhat unnecessary. Power pop and Finnish language stuff are dear to me but still gets a smaller role here and therefore made perhaps more sense to highlight them separately as well. We’ll see. Feel free to make a request, if there’s something specific you’d love to listen.

And on with the new music weekly. New solo Benjamin Tod is probably the album of the week here with Nikki Lane and Mr. Sam & The People People albums on its side. Other album treasures of the week came from Jake Blount, Chris Canterbury, Felix Hatfield (I don’t know anything about this album. I didn’t find a word about it anywhere but it was on my release radar), Jason Dea West, Drew Beskin & The Sunshine, Lenny Bull (EP), Herman Dune, Maya Hawke, Lande Hekt, Jessie Baylin, Weeping Willows, Sunny Sweeney, Lily Arbor, Quinn Cicala (EP), Marisa Anderson and Status / Non-Status.

A strong Finnish release week too led by the awesome Knife Girl album. I wasn’t that big of fan of the early stuff, but this album is wonderful. Plenty of other gems too. I love the band Lokit, so lovely to have a new EP from them. And how about new Kytäjä album. Well count me in for sure. Then there’s also great albums from Torrances and Radiofiskars Orchestra along with singles from Joni Ekman, The Southgates and Tuomo & Markus.

Two quite different songs can share the international single of the week title. First we have new beautiful solo single from Taylor Kingman. It’s the first outtake from his new album that is due out November 18th on Mama Bird Recording Co. Then we have a real dream collaboration from two huge blog favorites Ian Daniel Kehoe and Luka Kuplowsky. Together they go by the name Ingredient and the first single is now out on the Telephone Explosion Records. I also want to highlight a couple of awesome indie pop singles from Field School and Model Shop. Some other early faves came from Colter Wall, The Delines, Ellen Froese, Eli Pearl, Why Dogs Why, Stephen Becker, Small Sur, Jeremy Squires and The No Ones. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Love from a distance.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.
