OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #175

Another week, another new music weekly.

I don’t really know if I should even keep making these, but maybe music and art make sense even when the world doesn’t.

The album of the week has to be the new Dakota Hall Scott album with the new Darren Hanlon close by. Love that Gus Clark too. I think it has been on Bandcamp before, so maybe not exactly new but new to streaming and a mighty good one. New Joe Purdy and The Weather Station also always something to love and cherish. And as usual there’s a whole lot more. There’s new albums from Allegra Krieger, Rhyan Sinclair, Band of Horses, Guided By Voices, Ross Jenkins, Kristine Leschper, Matt Andersen, Loney Hutchins (reissue), Babehoven (EP), Beacheads, Landon Lloyd Miller, Shane Parish, KAINA, The Dip and Madi Diaz (EP).

The big one from Finland is the debut album from Pambikallio. There’s also a run of singles from Mikael H, Samae Koskinen, Ilja Karsikas, Salla Karonen, Dinosaurusten pelastajat and Merkkarit & Kai Kuutamo (maybe kids music, but works for adults too). And a revisit to last week’s Amuri album.

My favorite international single of the week is the new beauty from Matt Dorrien. Other big favorites from S.G. Goodman, Tommy Alexander (this is double single and I love em both), Caroline Spence, Ian Noe, Mama’s Broke, Belle & Sebastian, Joshua Hedley, John Craigie, Jacob Miller, Pete Mancini and Anders Jörnesten. Just to name a few. They would all be worthy of a namedrop and often something I don’t mention here becomes a big favorite during the week. I don’t exactly know all these by heart the time I post this.

That’s all for this week. I don’t know will I manage to do a whole lot more at the moment. What is happening in the world is so horrible that it’s hard to get mind off it plus it almost makes promoting music feel wrong. I’ll keep this new music weekly still going on, because I need both the routine and the music to keep me sane. So back next weekend with another new music weekly if the blog/world still exists. I think I will drop Apple Music next week before I get charged for another month, because I don’t have the money to pay for three streaming services. My apologies if you listen this over there. I guess I could go to Submithub or something just to get enough money for the monthly fees, but I don’t really want to take that route. So most likely just Tidal and Spotify from now on. Love from a distance.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because a) if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each Sunday b) so that I don’t have a trillion of different playlists on my Spotify account. If you want to find the older ones I’ve moved them to the weekly playlist archive. So hit that link above and I’m sure you’ll find this playlist too.
