OCTA Music Weekly – Episode #135

Another week, another new music weekly.

What a lovely release week. One of the best of the year on a personal level, because I’m big fan of Damien Jurado, Johanna Samuels and The Deep Dark Woods. That was my big three of the week, but that’s only a fraction of all the release action. This week we also got new releases from John Andrews & The Yawns, Shay Martin Lovette, Riley Downing, Nap Eyes (EP), Kira Skov, Evan Seurkamp, Amos The Kid (EP), ROY, Dave Stroda (EP) (a Finnish connection here too, because Dave used to play with Rane Raitsikka on a band called The Longnecks), Sara Bug, Jesse Terry, Molly Tuttle (EP) Juliana Hatfield and Phil Hooley. Outside of Spotify, there’s a great tribute album to Ted Lucas. Check that out on Bandcamp. And listen to original Ted Lucas album too. An all-time fave of mine.

The Finnish highlight is the wonderful new Astrid Swan single Silvi’s Dream. There’s also excellent new singles from Mustat Kalsarit and Guggenheim-projektz.

And last but not least the international (should-be) hit singles. I nearly made a standing ovation alone in my apartment when I first heard the new Summer Dean & Colter Wall single. Now there’s a perfect country single. It’s an outtake from forthcoming Summer Dean album Bad Romantic that is due out on the 27th of August. Pre-order is up on her website. A few other ones that I love madly are the superb new singles from Jeremy James Meyer and Evan Cheadle. And of course there’s far more excellent singles from Lonny, John R. Miller, Wojtek the Bear, Charlie Parr, David Ritschard & Frida Hyvönen, Quivers, K.C. Jones, Son Volt, Wild Earp and so forth.

That’s it for this week. Last week I surprised myself and did a few roundup posts. I have no idea will I keep that up, because I still fee like horseshit most days. But I do have a couple lined up and I hope to make them within a couple of weeks. Love from a distance.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because a) if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each Sunday b) so that I don’t have a trillion of different playlists on my Spotify account.
