OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #297

Time to wrap up the 23rd music blog anniversary with the new music weekly.

This week we have new albums from AJ Woods, Lea Thomas, Tasha, JP Harris, Jesse Welles, Stelth Ulvang, Sophie Gault, Christopher Paul Stelling, Guy Capecelatro III, Iji, P:ano, Cassie Ramone, Mo Dotti, Gurry Wurry, Mike Viola, Steve Slagg, Kelly McMichael, Dogs at Large (EP) and Dark Canyon.

Big Finnish release week too. I’ve been somewhat obsessed with the new Essi Leppänen systeemi album early on, but there’s also great albums from Ocelot, D.O.P.A., Lempi Elo. Country-blues singer-songwriter Jantso Jokelin also has a streaming EP now (he released a full album on CD last summer). Lots of awesome singles too. Pelko, Bad Sauna and Miika Leivo some early faves there, but I like them all. We have new songs from Litku Klemetti feat Sumuposauttaja, Hanhani, Janeveera, Aleksi Mattila and Carla Aakre.

International single of the week is the new Haley Heynderickx song that I already posted earlier in the week. Other early faves came from Chris Acker, Dorothea Paas, Widower, Office Culture, 2nd Grade.. again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Back next week with another of these. Might be a bit of rushed effort, if I hit Helsinki on the weekend. Pelko, Hattara, Salaliitto on Friday and Iron Country Sisters on Saturday would be a good double feature in the big city. But there’s a whole lot of good concerts here in Turku too, so perhaps it’s more likely I’ll just stay here. Anyway, thanks again for the 23 years and thanks to anyone who is following this new music adventure regularly or occasionally. Love love love.

A few Bandcamp cuts for the lovely non-streamers:

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.
