OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #242

Another quick delayed vacation edition of the new music weekly. I was away from home all week and only got back on Saturday evening. I haven’t really had the time to listen all that much of new music and I’m sure there’s stuff missing. But here’s what I managed to find in one day.

The album of the week is The Clientele. I loved them many moons ago and well still do. I look forward to giving their new one a proper spin as soon as I have the time. We also got new albums from Pia Fraus, Jordan Moser, Steve Marino, The Big Net, Tuba Skinny, Jim Rioux, Susto, Anders Jörnesten, Mary Kate Teske, Nora Brown and Stephanie Coleman (EP), Hutchie (EP), Alice Faye (EP), Red Sleeping Beauty (EP) and Small Paul.

From Finland the big one is a new double single from all time faves Penniless. We also got a couple of new albums from Rakkaudella Janne and Uudet Härmälän Pelimannit plus singles from Vulvarutto and The Lovematches. Emilia Sisco’s single is something I managed to miss a week ago. I’m ashemed about that, because it’s absolute wonderful. Oh and I included another song from last week’s Jenna-Marie Laine album at the end of the playlist. I didn’t praise that enough a week ago. I listened it a couple of times this week and loved it. A really beautiful album.

The song of the week is of course the new Tyler Childers single about the relationship of gay coal miners. Exactly what country music needs from an artist with a large following. Well done Tyler and everyone involved it the single and music video. Other early faves came from Colored Lights, Smith and Tegio, Evangeline Gentle, Holy Matter and so forth. Lots of soul gems this week too.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. One more vacation week ago. Country Club Festival next weekend in Turku, so it probably will be a Sunday update again. Love love love.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.
