OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #239

Another fairly quick summer edition of the new music weekly. A bit slow release week too. Usually is especially around the 4th of July.

Max Bien Kahn is the album of the week. This week also gave us beautiful new albums from Julie Byrne, Miles Miller, Michael C. Duguay, The Finks, Your Heart Breaks, PJ Harvey, Riders of the Canyon (a couple weeks old, but missed it before), PJ Harvey, Heidi Lynne Gluck, Aaron Boyd (a week old), Chris Stamey, Tom Curless & The 46% and The Photocopies (EP). Plus there’s a Nick Drake tribute album.

Juha Mäki-Patola and his beautiful new single is the whole Finnish section this time around. I’m sure there had to be much more.

New Joe Bourdet song is the new international single of the week. Matt Mitchell Music Co is a new one for me, but instantly loved their song. Some great soulful gems too from Pale Jay and The Sextones. Other faves came from Tobacco City, Teenage Fanclub, Smug Brothers, William Matheny and Steven van Betten. Just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters a great deal. The second part of my Summer vacation starts on Friday. How it will effect the new music weekly and the blog remains to be seen. Plans are still a bit in the air, but it starts with a Kassi Valazza concert in Tampere on the 14th of July. See you there. I think I will be making this next weekend, but I think it goes to Sunday or even Monday due to that Tampere trip. I let you know on the socials, if it’s delayed or won’t happen altogether. Fuck the government, I love you.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.
