OCTA Music Weekly – Episode #159

Another week, another new music weekly.

And also another great release week. A new Caleb Stine album was a happy surprise, because I wasn’t aware of such beauty coming out. That was my top pick of the week along with new albums from Natalie Jane Hill, Emily Scott Robinson and Charlotte Cornfield. They can all share that imaginary album of the week title. That’s not all though. We also got new ones from Mr. Alec Bowman_Clarke (EP), Hayes Carll, Mick Mullin, Lilli Lewis, Chris Kasper (EP), Lunar Vacation, Travis Feutz (EP), Melanie Beth Curran, Liz Jones & Broken Windows (Spotify just has the gorgeous single, so go to Bandcamp for the full album), Fortitude Valley, Alcopops (EP), Marissa Nadler, Billy Bragg, Pauline Andres (reissue), Charissa Hoffman (EP), Brandy Zdan, Anna Vincent, Eleanor Buckland and Simon Linsteadt (EP).

The Finnish section is a bit short this time around. It’s led by the wonderful Linda Fredriksson album and also contains singles from Palor and Color Dolor. Plus revisits last week’s gorgeous Tvärtom album. I’m sure there had to be more.

And finally the international singles and there was so much love in this category. The Delines, Hurray For the Riff Raff and Jake Xerxes Fussell all announced new albums and released first outtakes. This is big deal. Julie Doiron and Charles Wesley Godwin released further greatness from their forthcoming albums and a long time blog favorite Matt Paxton released a great new song. Oh yeah and there’s a new double single from the magnificent Annika Norlin (Hello Saferide / Säkert). I’m a big fan, so that was a pleasant surprise. Somehow I had missed the new Apollo Flowerchild single earlier this month, but it’s here now and it’s so damn good. And that’s of course just to name a few. You’ll find them all below.

That’s it for this week. Love from a distance.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because a) if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each Sunday b) so that I don’t have a trillion of different playlists on my Spotify account. If you want to find the older ones I’ve moved them to the weekly playlist archive. So hit that link above and I’m sure you’ll find this playlist too.
