OCTA Weekly Playlist – Episode #76

Another week, another weekly playlist.

Still a bit quiet on the album front, but there’s still plenty to listen and love. The top album release for me is the debut Gladie album. I loved the EP a couple of years back and I’ve been eager to hear more. Now we have an album of this greatness. The week also brought new albums from Greg Mendez, Chelsea Lovitt, Christian Kjellvander, Waco Brothers, Jason Joshua & The Beholders, Real Estate, Ratboys, The Secret Sisters, Sierra Hull, Grant Earl Lavalley, Ismay, Erica Freas, Brooke Bentham, Ben Seretan and Kyshona Armstrong. Then there’s also a wonderful EP from Via Mardot and the Hanemoon album I missed earlier (if you liked Seaside Stars back in the early 00s, check out this new project Hanemoon).

The Finnish highlight is the superb single from joku iiris. I can’t wait to hear the album that arrives in early April. Other excellent new Finnish releases this week are the EP from Tams, album from Karina and singles from Untogethers and M. This playlist also revisits the Toni Hautamäki ja Ydinrauha album that came out last week and the great 2019 EP from Tvärtom that is now available on Spotify too.

The singles game was strong and these plenty that I love dearly. Phoebe Bridgers was probably the big one, but there’s several that were just as gorgeous. For example the ones by Chase Weinacht (new magical solo single from Marmalakes frontman), Terry’s Paradise (post modern doo wop from Portland, accidentally stumbled upon this on Spotify and instantly loved it) Jaime Wyatt, Whitney Rose, Brigid Mae Power, Sam Doores, Tristen, Ariel Sharrat & Mathias Kom, Lucinda Williams and so forth. And obviously the Daniel Romano song, which is a familiar one but still works perfectly. It’s the first single from a forthcoming live album.

That’s it for this week. Take care and love love love.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because a) if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each Sunday b) so that I don’t have a trillion of different playlists on my Spotify account.
